The Castlefield area has a great bar known as the Dukes 92, which has a fine roaring fire to keep the place warm. Barca pub is a local favourite and owned by the local singer, Mick Hucknall. Didsbury suburb has some great bars like the Metropolitan, or take yourself out to the suburbs of Chorlton and visit the Polar bar, The Saints , and the Bar, which are all next to each other on Wilbraham Road, and are worth a visit. Withington is a real student area and has some great bars like the ever-popular Solomon Grundy. Fallowfield, Rusholme and Whalley Range have some great student areas with lots of halls of residence, that gives the area a very vibrant atmosphere. Cool pubs like the Orange Grove, and the popular Platt Park is an enjoyable focal point for the local residents. The Northern Quarter has some great live music bars like Dry Bear and also the Fat City Records. Oxford Road has 3 main universities on its doorstep. Lots of friendly student bars are around here. Bars like Revolution give this area a great atmosphere. The Grinch bar in the centre offers great lunch meals and also has some great jazz performances several evenings a week. Deansgate Locks, which is under the railway arches is where all the fine looking people hang out and there are several great bars in this area, including the Lock bar which is ever so popular. In the Gay village, one can visit Manchester's first multi million pound super club Essential. Prague V has a mix of straights and gays. For some heavy metal, head off to Rock World. Paradise Factory and Phoenix cater for the techno raver who wants to dance their heads off. The students have their own designated clubs that are always packed to the rafters. The likes of Club Underground, The Ritz, The Brickhouse and the 5th Avenue Club are very student friendly and play some great grunge and indie music with a fantastic atmosphere inside. |
