Man United have won many titles in their day and to start off mentioning their triumphs, I will mention the Division one leagues that they won. The Premiership use to be called Division One, and around the 1990s, it changed its name to the premiership. The Red Devils won the league in the first division in the following years. Division One Champions: 1908, 1911, 1952, 1956, 1957, 1965, and 1967. It took them almost 26 years before they won the league again under the management of the magnificent Alex Ferguson who has won the premiership 8 times for Manchester United. The following years are when the Red Devils won the league: Premiership League Champions: 1993, 1994, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003. The FA cup is a very important tournament that is hard won. Man Utd won the FA Cup on 10 occasions. The years that the won this great cup are in the years below: FA Cup Winners: 1909, 1948, 1963, 1977, 1983, 1985, 1990, 1994, 1996, and 1999. They won the European Cup Winners Cup in 1991 and the European Super Cup in 1991 as well. But the greatest success for the club was when they won the European Cup twice in their history. They won the first European Cup back in 1968 under the great Matt Busby, and in 1999, they beat Bayern Munich in the last few seconds of the game to win the Cup under Alex Ferguson. He was magnificent on that night when he brought on two substitutions late in game when Bayern were winning 1 - 0 at the time. And in injury time the two subs scored a goal each to win the trophy. The administrators had to remove the Bayern Munich colours off the Cup at the end of such a thrilling match. Manchester United went on to win not only the English league that year, but also the FA cup. They were the first English team to complete the treble. That year they also won the Toyota Inter Continental Cup. MANCHESTER UNITED: THE TRAGIC STORY OF THE 1958 PLANE CRASH Manchester United entered the European competition for the first time in 1956 and they reached the semi final. In 1957 they entered the European competition again. In February 1958, they were up against Red Star in Belgrade. When they were heading back to Manchester after the game, the plane stopped to refuel in the German city of Munich. It was a very cold time of year with lots of snow and the runway was quite icy. The captain of the plane tried twice to take off, but failed and had to abort the takeoff. But the third time he tried, Captain Thain got the plane off the ground but it accidentally overshot the runway and the wing clipped a nearby house. The following Manchester United players lost their lives in the crash. Geoff Bent, Roger Byrne, Eddie Coleman, Mark Jones, David Pegg, Tommy Taylor and Liam Whelan all died in the plane wreckage. Duncan Edwards was seriously injured and died two weeks later. The United trainer, Tom Curry, the coach Bert Whalley and the club secretary Walter Crickmer all lost their lives. Several English journalists and workers died in the wreckage. Sir Matt Busby had to stay in hospital for several months. He was one of the lucky ones. It took Manchester United several years before they started to perform with class on the field . George Best joined Man Utd in 1964 and things went from strength to strength for the club. He was sheer class.
